Cory Teunissen has been one of the longest Riders on the Deshaport Inc team. An Aussie native who has spent his summers in central Florida training and making a name for himself for as long as we can remember. Cory is a consistent resident on the podium and is routinely known for his infectious energy both on and off the water. One of Cory’s most memorable career moments was when he was coming off a win in the World Series while battling a blown shoulder he had been dealing with all year. “I raced home and had surgery within 72 hours of being in the country. It was the first big injury I had so I did all I could to get back to being healthy as quickly as possible. I came back a month early to compete in the first event of the season, Moomba Masters in Australia. Disregarding the doctor’s advice to be on the water, I took the chance and my whole family and friends flew down to Melbourne to support me. Long story short, I ended up competing really well and after finals, I was walking back up to the grandstand area where the VIPs were seated. My nephew came running up to me and gave me a big hug and congratulated me. While hugging him the announcement came through over the speakers saying I had won and just instantly broke into tears. At that moment I knew I was so content with who I was and the support crew I had around me, was just pure joy.” When we asked Cory how he hopes to impact the sport during the duration of his career he was adamant about wanting to pass the baton to the next generation. He believes it is the most important act any athlete can do when it comes to any sport. He hopes that if he can influence at least one person, who can fall in love with the sport that he has been involved in his entire life, then he believes he’s done his job.
